I attended the master class with John and Maggie in Huntsville, Alabama February 8. The two hours was packed with insightful information as John and Maggie answered questions about their film-making history.

Of the tools I gained from the class I think this idea of writing separate character biographies is the one I needed most. It sounds like a great way to get a handle on organizing a story based on real historical characters without having to "tell everything."

I am so glad to see the character biographies here on the website. They enhance my appreciation of the nuances of character in the movie.

My husband and I and another couple saw this film at the Detroit Institue of Arts this weekend and loved it! We're still trying to figure out who some of the 'fictitious" characters are - Obviosly the blind guitar player-ghost is Robert Johnson, the fake Guitar Sam seems to be Chuck Berry. At any rate, it's a wonderful film and everyone who saw it with us loved it. The audience clapped when it was over!

There are a lot of subtle references to people and situations in the American South in the 1950's.
